We Are Sauk Prairie Series Program: “If You Plant it, Will it Grow?”

Jeb Barzen, former ecologist with the International Crane Foundation and now ecologist for Private Lands Conservation LLC, will give a 25-year synopsis of the prairie restoration efforts at the Crane Foundation at the Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance’s May evening program.

Ecological restoration is becoming an increasingly common, and some might argue critical, component of conservation biology.  Land managers expect predictable outcomes from their management decisions but often fail.  With ecological restoration comes unpredictability.  Independent factors such as weather vary over time and can cause changes in plant establishment success.  Jeb will share his experience with long-term prairie restoration.
