Today marks the first day for the Alliance's new executive director, Rebecca (Becca) Dymzarov. Becca…
On a recent cool Saturday morning (September 24), more than 36 volunteers participated in a half-day work event at the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area at the former Badger Army Plant north of Sauk City. The Volunteer Stewardship Day was co-hosted by the Alliance and our outdoor partner, REI-Madison to celebrate National Public Lands Day.
For two-and-a- half hours the group strategically cut and hauled invasive shrubs from under a mature oak grove adjoining the remnant Hillside Prairie at Badger. What was once a dense and impenetrable thicket of shrubs is now wide open, thanks to this great volunteer effort.
Following the work day, REI hosted the volunteers at a pizza party at the nearby Woodshed Ale House in Sauk City.
THANKS to our great team of volunteers for their help, and to REI for hosting the event. Additional work days this fall are scheduled for Saturday, October 8th and Saturday, November 12th. Check our website under “Events” for details.
