Sauk Prairie Remembered: A Vision For The Future (Artist: Victor Bahktin)

Alliance delivers final comments to DNR

On August 11, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources released its 160-page Draft Master Plan for the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area, the 3,400-acre state-managed portion of the former 7,400-acre Badger Army Ammunition Plant near Sauk City.  The public was given 45 days to respond to the Plan.  The Alliance created a Review Team to review the Plan and to respond to its content.  The “Badger Forward” Committee of the Alliance has crafted the final Alliance response, and the comments have been submitted to DNR this week.  To see the cover letter that accompanied the Comments, click here.  The entire Comments document from the Alliance can be found here.

The Alliance is opposed to the proposed high-impact recreational activities that include off-road motorcycles, rocketry, snowmobiles through the center of the Badger property (Great Sauk Trail) and year-round hunting dog training (that involves the discharge of firearms).

Citizens interested in responding to the Draft Master Plan must get their comments to DNR by Friday, September 25th.  Most of the Plan is found here on our website. The complete Plan is available on the DNR’s website.

You may also offer your comments online via a survey on the DNR’s website.  Click here for the survey.
