In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; we will understand only what we have been taught.

Education Through Restoration

The Alliance’s youth education program firmly took root in January 2007, when Education Coordinator, Gary Williams came on board to help teach area school children about Badger’s natural and cultural history through volunteering and stewardship of the land.  In 2008, over 800 students representing 7 school districts participated in this service learning program, and the response continues to grow!

HOW OUR YOUTH PROGRAM WORKS  Each class receives a visit from the Alliance with a short presentation on cultural history, a bit of geology and how the glaciers affected the area, and finally a briefing on prairie facts.

Classrooms can choose from several topics of concentration:
· Invasive Species Control
· Seed Collection
· Seed Planting
· Nursery Management
· Plant Identification
· Internet Projects
· Further Classroom Development
· Hands-On Restoration Projects
Classes are invited to the Sauk Prairie/ Badger Plant to participate in active prairie restoration, such as seed planting, brush cutting, and plant ID.  Bussing costs are provided by the Alliance, at this time, through generous support from local granting organizations and individuals.

Our Goals
Our mission statement and goals were developed as part of our strategic planning process in the spring of 2002, after incorporating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Volunteer
Work parties are a great way to meet others who are interested in conservation, the Sauk Prairie, or the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. It also presents a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Wisconsin's native prairie and savanna communities!
History of the Badger Lands
The history of the Badger Plant and the greater Sauk Prairie is an amalgam of many histories, beginning billions of years ago with the formation of some of the oldest and most durable rocks on earth...
Imagine!
Badger presents the opportunity to provide endless recreational pursuits for area residents, including hiking, photography, bicycling, cross-country skiing, and camping.
Become a Member
We have over 200 members and we are growing! We need your support to continue to work toward a community-based conservation future for Badger.
