In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; we will understand only what we have been taught.

Education Through Restoration

The Alliance’s youth education program firmly took root in January 2007.  By 2008, over 800 students representing 7 school districts participated in this service learning program, and the response continues to grow!  Currently we provide opportunities to all school districts located within Sauk County, as well as a few districts in neighboring counties.

HOW OUR YOUTH PROGRAM WORKS  Teachers can choose to borrow materials from the Alliance, or have an Alliance representative visit the classroom to give a short presentation on the cultural and natural history of the Sauk Prairie, including the Badger Plant.

Classrooms can choose from several topics:
· Invasive Species Control
· Seed Collection
· Seed Planting
· Nursery Management
· Plant Identification
· Internet Projects
· Further Classroom Development
· Hands-On Restoration Projects
Classes are then invited to the former Badger Plant to participate in hands-on prairie restoration.  Bussing costs are provided by the Alliance at this time.  For more information on this unique program, or to SPONSOR a specific school group, please contact the Alliance at info@saukprairievision.org.

Our Goals
Our mission statement and goals were developed as part of our strategic planning process in the spring of 2002, after incorporating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Volunteer
Work parties are a great way to meet others who are interested in conservation, the Sauk Prairie, or the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. It also presents a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Wisconsin's native prairie and savanna communities!
History of the Badger Lands
The history of the Badger Plant and the greater Sauk Prairie is an amalgam of many histories, beginning billions of years ago with the formation of some of the oldest and most durable rocks on earth...
Badger Reuse Plan
The Sauk Prairie on the Badger lands presents the opportunity to provide endless opportunities for education, restoration, research, and low impact recreation.
